Introduction
We are always looking for fresh, creative pictures to sell on your behalf from this site. We need new and up-to-date material regularly - even highly saleable pictures become “over-used” and have to be replaced by fresh ones.
The more Images you have with us, and the broader the range of subjects you cover the greater are your chances of making regular sales.
Although we welcome one off submissions of specialist subjects, we are particularly looking for photographers that can send us a regular supply of interesting images of varying subjects.
Quality
Selling nature and scenic photographs is a highly competitive business with many excellent photographers around the world competing for a share in the market.
It is essential that you approach your photography with dedication to quality. You need to keep in mind that you are shooting for commercial reasons not solely artistic value.
If you want to make an income from your images you must be prepared to release your very best work - and this means we need your best pictures.
Our clients expect to be supplied with highest quality images. It’s important to keep in mind the following points:
- The main subject should be in focus.
- The tonal range of the image should have detail in both the highlights and shadow.
- The overall colour should be neutral, without a colourcast.
It is worth studying the lighting techniques of other photographers to make sure your technique compliments your subject and makes for beautiful images.
Subjects
“A good picture is worth a thousand words and dollars”! What makes a good picture? Generally it’s in the eye of the beholder but here is a simple but effective guideline that we like:“A good picture will capture the interest and tell the story to a 10 year old boy.” I pretty tough market!
- Have a look at our Wants list. Be prepared to shoot images of subjects that are outside your normal field of interest.
- We do need more of the Australian fauna icons, we need many more! The More we get the more we sell!
- Use our web site to see what images we have on a particular subject if you feel you could add breadth or quality to our coverage please do so.
- As a switched on Photographer you will very aware of what is going on around you. Use this knowledge to shoot “happenings” as they occur; floods, bushfires, plagues, strandings, seasonal behaviour, etc.
- Don’t leave it to someone else. Our highest earning photographers just shoot everything. They have developed a good commercial eye and shoot all around a subject when they find one.
- If you are planning a trip or expedition, we may well have some specific requirements that you could fulfill, so please ring us to discuss things before you set off.
Shooting
Think about taking sequences or picture stories around a central subject as this makes images much more marketable and gives clients a greater choice.
Once you have found or created a good photographic situation, take advantage of it - shoot as many pictures as possible and send us a large selection.
Presentation of Digital submissions
Our minimum specifications of Digital files from a Digital Camera:
- Files must come from a camera with a minimum Eight mega-pixel chip
- The images need to be shot in RAW or equivilent format.

- You will need to process the RAW files and supply them to us as a16 Bit Tiff for PC

All submissions should be sent as final hi-res Tiffs processed to these specifications. Files can be presented all together in one folder on the CD or DVD. We would rather not have your files embedded in some sort of viewing software please.
Please send captions using this excel spreadsheet. The accompaning instruction sheet will help you give all the relevant information we need. Please also read with relevant caption details section.
Please clearly label your CD or DVD with your name and contact number. Once we have edited your work we will notify you of the number of images that we have taken into the library.

For Wildlife and Plants please include full identification (i.e. both common and scientific names) and what behaviour the species is displaying if relevant. Please also give basic geographic location details of where the images were shot.
For other subjects please give us details of where the shot was taken, including the name of any National Park or Reserve and what the image shows if this is not immediately evident (e.g. land degradation, erosion-control, habitat type, etc).
Model Release Forms
For most editorial uses, model releases are not necessary. For commercial purposes, however, it is an unsafe business practice to sell pictures of identifiable persons without their written permission.
When your photographs include identifiable people, at very least take their name and address, better still obtain a model release on the spot. When submitting such images please include a copy of the model release.
